HOW GREEN AM I?

I don’t consider that my habits would allow me to say “I’m a Eco-Hero” or “I’m a Tree-Hugger-Hater”. I think I'm a Green-in-Between.

I have never joined or supported eco-organizations. I suppose that the reason of it is lack of interest about joining in that kind of organizations. However, this doesn't mean that I don’t care about the environment. Opposite, I do things that contribute to reduce my carbon footprint and I use to recycle in my house.

For example, I stopped to drive my parent’s car and I cycle my bike to travel everywhere. So I cycle to University, to my friend’s houses, to the supermarket, etc. Also, I take the bus only when I want to travel along large distances.

In my house, I deposit organic material in a huge box to make organic compost, which is used to fertilize the earth or, simply, I use organic compost in the garden so I don’t have to buy earth. Apart from that, I recycle plastic bottles, putting them underground in such a way that the top of the bottles stay on the earth so that I can water plants or trees. You can see it in the picture below.

Furthermore, I recycle plastic and glass bottles, paper and carton, putting them in recycle points.

I have learned about environmentally friendly practices in primary school. We recycled paper and bottles and we had a vegetable garden. I have read some documents about recycling on Internet  Here you can find a lot of information about how you can recycle.

Books and Literature

When I was a child I used to read picture books that my parents brought me. They give me picture books like “Pinocchio”, “Alice in Wonderland”, “The little mermaid”, “The ugly duckling”. Also they brought me books like “Papelucho el Marciano”, Papelucho historiador”, “Susanita y yo” and “¡Hurra! Susanita ya tiene dientes”. When I didn’t know to read, my mother read me every night and I enjoyed it too much.

Now, I don’t read books too much because I began to hate reading at secondary school because the literature teacher forced me to read a lot and the books that I had to read were too boring and they didn’t interested me. But, I have to read a lot in high education, so I read every day.

My favorite writer is Paulo Coelho and my favorite book is “A orillas del río piedra me senté  y lloré” written by the author mentioned. I use to read at weekend, and I like to do this in the beach or in the country.

The last book I read was “El gusano y las hormigas”, written by a friend of mine. It’s a picture book for kids. I read it because my friend uses to show me her picture books and I read it to my nephew Diego. He really enjoyed it and so was I. The story is about the travel that a worm and a family of ants make, trying to look for the top of an old tree for see the shining stars at night. Of course, I recommended it for children and it takes between 10 and 15 minutes to read.

Why I became a teacher: to nurture and cultivate a love of learning

In this new, Adam López, a primary teacher, tells us about his experience like a child at school, how he decided to be a teacher, and finally he tell us his beliefs about learning and teaching.
He remembered when he was in primary school; it was a small Welsh rural primary school and he had a teacher whose name was Mr. Davies who was a nice teacher and more relaxed than the other teachers. Also, he promoted a good atmosphere in the class because he enjoyed teaching and he has a good sense of humour. He inspired to Adam to be a teacher years later.

Adam said the idea of teacher began when travelled to Spain with his family and decided to do a voluntary work as a teacher assistant. Since that, he recognized that he loved teaching.
The deputy head influenced in his learning like a teacher because he taught him a lot of things like how to interact with children, how to rescue the positive things and offer good learning opportunities for children.

Finally, Adam López thinks the teaching like a garden, or rather children need to be cultivated with love, patience, care, considering their interests and developing a relationship. Also he told us that he had a garden into his school, in which children have an important role in it.
