My future Job

Today I will talk about my future job, because of that I'm going to tell you something related to a major that I’ve taken this semester. It’s called “Registro de experiencias y práctica inicial”. It's about what I will have to do when I will be an educator. If you don't know, I'm studying to be a teacher for children between 0 and 8 years old. I like this major because I'm carry about people's education, and I want to promote significant learning opportunities to children in such a way that they learn and have a cognitive, affective and social develop. In this major, I have to do my initial practice, so I have to prepare learning experiences. This semester, I am doing the   initial practise in Kindergarden at Colegio Presidente Frei Montalva, in Ñuñoa.

I hope to get a job related with education between 4 and 8 years old and I would like to work in a rural school because I don't like the city and urban places. So, I prefer to work and live in a place surrounded by nature and relaxed people, breathing pure air. Also, I want to work in a small  and homely school. I hope I will never work in a traditional school, where the learning is considered by a transmission of knowledge.

I’d consider some aspects to choose a job, for example: salary, good atmosphere, transport, near my home, flexibility and independence related to do my work, etc.

I think  my strengths are: I'm very responsible, reflexive, creative, respectful, open to diversity. Also, I know about working with children specially in art, literacy, and  I’m monitor in organic recycling.  But, I’m not good at playing music and singing for the children.

HOW GREEN AM I?

I don’t consider that my habits would allow me to say “I’m a Eco-Hero” or “I’m a Tree-Hugger-Hater”. I think I'm a Green-in-Between.

I have never joined or supported eco-organizations. I suppose that the reason of it is lack of interest about joining in that kind of organizations. However, this doesn't mean that I don’t care about the environment. Opposite, I do things that contribute to reduce my carbon footprint and I use to recycle in my house.

For example, I stopped to drive my parent’s car and I cycle my bike to travel everywhere. So I cycle to University, to my friend’s houses, to the supermarket, etc. Also, I take the bus only when I want to travel along large distances.

In my house, I deposit organic material in a huge box to make organic compost, which is used to fertilize the earth or, simply, I use organic compost in the garden so I don’t have to buy earth. Apart from that, I recycle plastic bottles, putting them underground in such a way that the top of the bottles stay on the earth so that I can water plants or trees. You can see it in the picture below.

Furthermore, I recycle plastic and glass bottles, paper and carton, putting them in recycle points.

I have learned about environmentally friendly practices in primary school. We recycled paper and bottles and we had a vegetable garden. I have read some documents about recycling on Internet  Here you can find a lot of information about how you can recycle.

Books and Literature

When I was a child I used to read picture books that my parents brought me. They give me picture books like “Pinocchio”, “Alice in Wonderland”, “The little mermaid”, “The ugly duckling”. Also they brought me books like “Papelucho el Marciano”, Papelucho historiador”, “Susanita y yo” and “¡Hurra! Susanita ya tiene dientes”. When I didn’t know to read, my mother read me every night and I enjoyed it too much.

Now, I don’t read books too much because I began to hate reading at secondary school because the literature teacher forced me to read a lot and the books that I had to read were too boring and they didn’t interested me. But, I have to read a lot in high education, so I read every day.

My favorite writer is Paulo Coelho and my favorite book is “A orillas del río piedra me senté  y lloré” written by the author mentioned. I use to read at weekend, and I like to do this in the beach or in the country.

The last book I read was “El gusano y las hormigas”, written by a friend of mine. It’s a picture book for kids. I read it because my friend uses to show me her picture books and I read it to my nephew Diego. He really enjoyed it and so was I. The story is about the travel that a worm and a family of ants make, trying to look for the top of an old tree for see the shining stars at night. Of course, I recommended it for children and it takes between 10 and 15 minutes to read.

Why I became a teacher: to nurture and cultivate a love of learning

In this new, Adam López, a primary teacher, tells us about his experience like a child at school, how he decided to be a teacher, and finally he tell us his beliefs about learning and teaching.
He remembered when he was in primary school; it was a small Welsh rural primary school and he had a teacher whose name was Mr. Davies who was a nice teacher and more relaxed than the other teachers. Also, he promoted a good atmosphere in the class because he enjoyed teaching and he has a good sense of humour. He inspired to Adam to be a teacher years later.

Adam said the idea of teacher began when travelled to Spain with his family and decided to do a voluntary work as a teacher assistant. Since that, he recognized that he loved teaching.
The deputy head influenced in his learning like a teacher because he taught him a lot of things like how to interact with children, how to rescue the positive things and offer good learning opportunities for children.

Finally, Adam López thinks the teaching like a garden, or rather children need to be cultivated with love, patience, care, considering their interests and developing a relationship. Also he told us that he had a garden into his school, in which children have an important role in it.

Independence Day Holidays

I usually celebrate Independence Day Holidays in my grandmother’s house with my two parents, my brother, my cousins, my aunts and uncles. We meet at lunch and make a barbecue, “empanadas” and “mote con huesillo”. After we have lunch, we stay at the table for a while talking about different things and then we play some music and dance “cueca”. In the evening we continue eating and drinking “chicha”.

I really like these holidays because I have a good time with my family. My grandmother prepares delicious “empanadas” and I enjoy eating some. I also like to listen and dance to the “cueca”. I can’t think of anything that I dislike about these Holidays. In my opinion, these are one of the best holidays in the year.
 These are "empanadas"

This year was different, I spent these holidays with my brother and my best friend in Santiago, and my parents travelled to the beach. I went with my brother and his friends to a “fonda”, a kind of refreshment stand, in Parque Hurtado. I ate kebabs and french fries and drank “terremoto”, which produced me a lot of stomach-ache and headache. Regardless of that we had a great time together, talking and laughing.

The next evening, I and my best friend went to a “fonda” in Parque Inés de Suárez. We ate “empanadas” and drank only juice. We talked a lot because we hadn’t been together for about three months and we had some important things about our lives to talk about. So, I really enjoyed these Independence Day Holidays.

My best Holidays

An island, the sea, the sun and coconut drink were all I wanted in those wonderful holidays.

It was in the summer of 2010 when I visited Guarujá. It is an island located in the nearest coast
of Sao Paulo in Brazil, and if you want to go there you need to drive a car or take a bus to cross
the bridge that connects the island with the continent. I travelled there with my best friend,
and there we met some of my cousins who lived in Sao Paulo.

We spent two weeks there and the first thing we did each time we woke up was go to the
beach, where we went for a swim, we ate “tapioca”, “pastel” (a typical fast food Brazilian dish)
and corn. Also, we drank coconut drink, “caipirinha” and beer. At night, we went to dance to
different discotheques.

I spent some unbelievable holidays in Guarujá and I will never forget these holidays because
they were a lot of fun and also because I was on that island with people that I love so much
like my best friend and my cousins.

Here is a photograph of “tapioca” and coconut drink.

And here is a photograph of “pastel”.

I would like to visit...

Today I’m going to talk about a country I have always wanted to visit.

I would like to visit Australia because, in my point of view, it has one of the most beautiful natural surroundings in the world and, also, because a friend of mine that visited Australia told me there is a lot of wonderful places to visit like Kakadu National Park, considered heritage and it’s a huge space divided in seven different regions.

I know that Australia is the biggest island in the world and its located in the smallest continent: Oceania. One of the many island is Kangaroo, which is the third bigger island of the country, and more than a third part of it is protected or is conserved as national parks. In its wild coast you can find plenty of flora and fauna. Apart from that there is a lot of areas with cave paintings and it has five thousands of aborigine sites like refuges, rock tools, ceremonial objects, etc.

I would like to visit this island to go for a walk along the beaches, swim with dolphins, surf and to know kangaroos, pink pelicans, koalas and duck-billed platypus.

I don’t know If I would like to study, work or live in Australia. If I visit this country I think I could give an opinion about that.
